A Wonderful Meeting!!

In this video, we assume a situation that new students often encounter. We have all had the experience of getting lost trying to get to a special classroom at school when we were just starting school, right?
In this video, a student who is lost on her way to the English Room at Tsuruga Kiki High School encounters Ms. Abby. After that, she takes them to the English Room.
Abby-sensei would like many students to feel free to come to the English Room.

今回の動画では、新入生たちがよく遭遇するシチュエーションを想定しています。入学仕立ての頃、学校の特別教室へ行くのに迷った経験は誰にでもあるのではないでしょうか？今回の動画では、敦賀気比高校のEnglish Roomに行こうとして、校内で迷っている生徒が、アビー先生と出逢います。その後、English Roomに連れて行ってもらうという内容になっています。是非、多くの生徒に気軽にEnglish Roomに来て欲しいと思っているアビー先生です♪

The Easter Event at Tsuruga-kehi High School!!

Sunday, April 20 was Easter Day, and Ms. Abby gave a class on Easter Day. After learning about the origin of Easter and what we do on Easter Day, we enjoyed an egg hunt game.　　Seeing the colorful egg paintings, “Beautiful!” When they learned that Easter Day is a very important day for Christians, they said, “Oh, yes! They were surprised by the information presented by Ms. Abby. The students were very happy to learn so much about Easter.　　In the egg hunt game, the students were challenged with a quiz that required them to understand and express themselves. The students were able to reflect on themselves through cross-cultural understanding, and their faces were full of life.　The Tsuruga Kehi students are looking forward to their next seasonal lesson.

４月２０日（日）はイースターの日、ということで、アビー先生がイースターの日に関する授業を行いました。イースターの由来や、イースターの日にどのようなことをするのかを学んだあと、エッグハントゲームを楽しみました♪　カラフルなエッグペイントを見て「きれい！」、イースターの日がクリスチャンにとって、とても大切な日だと知り「そうなんや～！」と、アビー先生が提示する情報に終始、驚いていました。イースターに関する多くのことを知れて、生徒たちは大変に満足そうでした。　エッグハントゲームでは、自己理解・表現を求められたクイズに挑戦しました。異文化理解をとおして、自分を振り返ることができ、生徒たちの顔は生き生きとしていました。　次回のシーズンレッスンが楽しみな敦賀気比校生です♪

What is Easter?　　　　　　　　　　　　イースターって何？

Easter is the festival that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion. In 2025, Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, April 20. The date of Easter varies each year and is determined by a complicated calculation method: “the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Thus, it varies from year to year between March 22 and April 25. Christian churches also hold special services from “Holy Saturday,” the day before, to “Easter Sunday,” the day of the Resurrection, and solemn ceremonies are held to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. At commercial facilities, Easter decorations and limited-edition products appear as early as April, creating a mood reminiscent of the arrival of spring.
This is because the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the goddess symbolizing spring share the same image, and Easter also includes the meaning of celebrating the arrival of spring. Incidentally, Easter Island, famous for its moai statues, was discovered on Easter Day (April 5) in 1722.　　When people think of Easter, they think of eggs. The reason why we think of eggs is because eggs, which give birth to new life, are considered a symbol of life and resurrection, and they remind us of Jesus Christ, who was executed once and then resurrected.　Colorfully painted “Easter eggs” are an essential item for Easter. They are displayed in rooms and used in the egg hunts and egg races introduced earlier. It is also standard to enjoy games using the symbolic eggs at Easter. One of the most famous games is “Egg Hunt,” in which Easter eggs are hidden in a garden or park and people search for them. The whole family can go out together to search for them, feeling the arrival of spring.
Egg Race” is an egg-carrying game. The speed of the eggs is measured by carrying them with a spoon or other tools. Since raw eggs may break, boiled eggs or toy eggs are generally used. It is also recommended to enjoy the game with a handicap, such as a ladle for children and a spoon for adults. Eggs are the most representative symbol of Easter, symbolizing the birth and resurrection of new life. Colorfully decorated “Easter eggs” will be seen throughout the city on Easter 2025 as well. Chocolates and crafts made from eggs are also popular as gifts. Of course, you can also paint them with dyed colors or decorate them with fashionable masking tape!

「復活祭」のことです。十字架にかけられて亡くなったイエス・キリストが3日後、復活したことを祝う祭りで、キリスト教ではクリスマスと同じ重要なイベントです。2025年の復活祭（イースター）は、4月20日（日）になります。復活祭の日付は毎年変動し、「春分の日の後の最初の満月の次の日曜日」という複雑な計算方法で決まります。このため、3月22日から4月25日までの間で年によって変わります。またキリスト教の教会では前日の「聖土曜日」から当日の「復活の主日」にかけて特別な礼拝が行われ、キリスト復活を祝う厳粛な儀式が執り行われます。商業施設では4月に入ると早くも復活祭の装飾や限定商品が登場し、春の訪れを感じさせるムードが広がります。イースターは古代ゲルマン神話の春の女神の名前「Eoster（エオストレ）」に由来するとされています。これは、イエス・キリストの復活と、春を象徴する女神のイメージが共通するからとされ、イースターには春の訪れを祝う意味も含まれます。ちなみにモアイ像で有名なイースター島は1722年のイースターの日に（4月5日）発見されたことにちなんでいるそうです。イースターといえばイメージされるのが「卵」。なぜ卵かというと、新しい命が誕生する卵は生命や復活の象徴とされ、一度処刑された後に復活したイエス・キリストを連想させるためとされています。　イースターではカラフルにペイントされた「イースターエッグ」が欠かせないアイテム。部屋に飾ったり、先に紹介したエッグハントやエッグレースで使用したりします。イースターではシンボルである卵を使ったゲームを楽しむのも定番です。有名なゲームの一つである「エッグハント」はイースターエッグを庭や公園に隠し、それを探すゲーム。春の訪れを感じながら、家族みんなで探しにでかけます。
「エッグレース」は卵運びゲーム。スプーンなどで卵を運んで速さを競います。生卵を使うと割れてしまう可能性があるので、茹で卵やおもちゃの卵を使うのが一般的。子どもはお玉、大人はスプーンなど、ハンデをつけて楽しむのもオススメです。卵は復活祭の最も代表的なシンボルで、新しい命の誕生と復活を象徴しています。復活祭2025でも、カラフルに装飾された「イースターエッグ」が街中で見られるでしょう。卵を使ったチョコレートや工芸品は、贈り物としても人気です。もちろん色が染まったものにペイントしたり、オシャレなマスキングテープでデコレーションするのもOK！ぜひオリジナルのイースターエッグを作ってみてくださいね。
日本でも少しずつ定着しつつあるイースター。ぜひ今年はイースターエッグを作ったり、卵を使った料理を楽しみ、イースターを楽しむおうち時間を過ごしてみてくださいね。

３月２６日（水）、本校ALTのアビー先生のご両親が来校されました。

ご両親は１限～３限までの授業に参加されて、アメリカの食生活、お２人の趣味、日本で体験した様々な文化について、話をしてくださいました。生徒たちも、アメリカの文化やご両親の好きなものなどについて、積極的に質問をして、どの授業も和やかな雰囲気で行われました。ご両親は生徒たちの態度に大変に感心され、大満足の様子でした。生徒からは、今回の交流を終えて、「楽しかった」「スピーキングの速さがすごかった」との感想がありました。敦賀気比校生は、これからも英語学習を頑張っていきます！

アビー先生とルーティーン会話をやってみた！

Routines

生徒とアビ先生が朝や夕方に行うルーティーンについて話をしています。

まず、簡単な挨拶を交わしています♪

そのあと、週末にしたことについて話をします。アビー先生に質問され、２人の生徒は「テストがあって疲れた。」「コンサートに行った」と答えています。

その後、朝のルーティーンについて話をしています。２人の生徒は順番に

「〇〇時に起きて・・歯を磨いて・・服を着て・・」と色々なことを答えています。

その後、アビー先生のルーティーンを聞くと、２人の生徒は驚いています♪♪とてもハードワークなアビー先生のルーティーンです♪

３人の生徒がその後に合流します。

アビーに朝のルーティーンを聞かれて、２人の生徒が順に答えていきます。

「〇〇時に起きて・・顔を洗って・・シャワーをして・・朝食を食べて・・ゴミを出すこともある・・」などなど。

１人の生徒がアビーに仕事終わりのルーティーンについて聞いています。

アビーのルーティーンを聞いた後、生徒は学校終わりの家に帰ってからのルーティーンを説明します。

その後、アビーからの「家事はする？」の質問に対して、４人は「ごみを捨てる」「浴槽を洗う」「洗濯をする」「お皿を拭く（洗うのはお母さん）」と答え、最後の１人は「何もしない」と答えます。和気あいあいとした雰囲気です。

アビー「私は全部するわよ。でもお皿洗いが一番苦手かな。」とアビ先生。

授業の時間となり、ここでルーティーンに関する会話は終わります。

Hello, my name is Abigail, but you can call me Abi. I’m from Illinois, U.S. My hometown is called Silvis. It is a small town near the Mississippi River. We have all four seasons; spring, summer, fall, and winter. It usually snows in the winter. 

I enjoy reading books and comics, traveling, drawing, and watching k-dramas. I am excited to share about my culture and the English language!

こんにちは、私の名前はアビ・ゲイル、でもアビーと呼んでね。私の故郷はシルヴィスといいます。ミシシッピ川の近くにある小さな町です。春、夏、秋、冬の四季があります。冬はたいてい雪が降ります。

趣味は本や漫画を読むこと、旅行、絵を描くこと、Kドラマを見ることです。自分の文化や英語について分かち合えるのが楽しみです！

Part 1　初めて会う人との挨拶から始めてみよう！

“Hello, my name is 　○○○_.”　　　　　　　　　

《まずは、自分の名前を言いましょう。》

Then you should ask for their name.　

“What is your name?”　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

《その次に、相手の名前を尋ねます。》「あなたの名前は？」

After they tell you their name, you should tell them;

《相手が名前を教えてくれたら、あなたは次のように言いましょう。》

“Nice to meet you, ○○○”

「はじめまして！　○○○。」

If you say their name at the end it may help you remember their name.

《相手の名前を、最後に言うと、名前を覚えやすくなりますよ。》

In the U.S. it is a good idea to shake their hand and look at their eyes, when you greet them. This is good manners.

《アメリカでは挨拶するとき、握手をして相手の目を見るのがよいでしょう。》
